Geography
Geography Statement of Intent
At Kingsway Primary Academy we teach Geography to inspire our pupils to have a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Teaching equips pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. Therefore, allowing the children to have a greater understanding of the world in which they live in.
As pupils progress and develop their Geographical knowledge, this will enable them to have an understanding about the interaction between the physical and human processes and of the formation and use of the different landscapes. As children extend their knowledge, their understanding and skills provide the frameworks and approaches that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.
Children are taught to communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length which can also be used across other subjects. Spread across the curriculum children are taught the Geographical concepts which are: place, space, environment, interconnection, scale, sustainability and change. These concepts help children build skills and apply their knowledge to other areas of the curriculum. Children are given an opportunity to apply their understanding in planned field trips, including the local area and further afield.
