Art Statement of Intent

At Kingsway Primary Academy, art lessons engage, inspire and challenge pupils giving them the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Our Art lessons focus on seven elements: line, shape, form, space, value, colour and texture. Our aims are to ensure all pupils produce creative work, become proficient in drawing, painting, and sculpture, evaluate and analyse work and learn about great artists. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art. They should also know how art reflects and shapes our history and contributes to the culture. We will celebrate this by visiting local art galleries and studying artists such as, L.S Lowry and Andy Goldsworthy and inviting artists in to work with our children.

We continue to have a deep respect for pupil’s art and thoughtful displays of finished work are considered to be very important as a stimulus for learning and an appreciation of effort and ability. We recognise that there are children of widely different creative abilities in all classes, so we provide suitable learning opportunities for all children by matching the challenge of the task to the ability of the child.
