Strategic Functions of the Governing Committee
Chair and Vice Chair of the Local Governing Committee, Committee Memberships, Terms of Reference and Chair/Vice Chair of Committees are reviewed annually in the Autumn Term.
"As reflected in the law, the purpose of maintained school governing bodies is to 'conduct the school with a view to promoting the high standards of educational achievement at the school"
The three core strategic functions of the Local Governing Committee are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and it's pupils; and the performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
(Effective Governance, DfE Governors Handbook, October 2020)
These functions are reflected in the School Governance Regulations in Ofsted criteria to judge the effectiveness of Governance.
